NAVIGATING AIRPORTS WITH YOUR HEARING AIDS

NAVIGATING AIRPORTS WITH YOUR HEARING AIDS

The holidays are a time to celebrate with relatives, but it is also the busiest travel season of the year. Whether you're flying to see family or planning an extended stay in warmer climates, make traveling as easy as possible by being prepared to fly with your hearing aids. Below are some some tips to use in coordinating your travel plans.

When reserving your tickets online, search for seats that are near the front and in the aisle where flight crew can easily communicate with you if needed. It's also helpful to check the 'hard of hearing' or 'hearing loss' box and sign up for alerts via text or email, should there be a gate change or delayed flight announcement. Also, at the airport, bring copies of your confirmations so you can present them right away to ease the process in communicating with the customer service agent. When you check in, let the gate agent know you have a hearing loss so inside the airplane the attendants will be informed and know to communicate any in-flight announcements to you in person. You can leave your hearing aids on the entire flight as they won't bother the plane's communication equipment.
